Mark Daly’s painting “Winging It” (oil, 20” x 16”) has been juried into the Oil Painters of America (OPA) 33rd National Juried Exhibition at Mark Arts in Wichita, Kansas (April 5 - May 31, 2024). The painting depicts the schooner Stephen Taber (a National Historical Landmark built in 1871) sailing downwind in the Camden Classics sailboat race on Penobscot Bay, Maine.
Stephen Taber is a two-masted schooner operating as a "windjammer" out of Rockland, Maine. She is one of a small number of surviving schooners originally built for the Atlantic coasting trade, and one of only three with a centerboard, allowing access through shallow channels and to shallow landing points. She has a well-documented history of continuous service since her construction.
